operation.OngigabitEthernetports,configurespeed

andduplexaccordingtoCisco'srecommendations.



CiscorecommendsthatallgigabitEthernetportsbeconfigured

asautosensing,whichisthedefaultsettingandthusrequires

noextraconfiguration.AutosensingongigabitEthernetpasses

alotmoreinformation(suchasflowcontrolparameters)thanis

passedintheFastEthernet/Ethernetauto-negotiationprocess.

ThefeaturerequiredforthisconfigurationtaskisEtherChannel,

whichallowsyoutoconfiguremultiplephysicalinterfacesasa

single,virtualLayer2interface.Therequirementsdictatehow

youmustconfigurePortAggregationProtocol(PAgP)andhow

youneedtoconfigureloaddistribution.Forspanningtreeto

workcorrectlywithEtherChannelbundles,youconfigurean

EtherChannelmodeofdesirableonbothsides.ThisPAgPmode

ensuresthatspanningtreedoesnotdetectaphysicallink

failure.Thesecondrequirementisstraightforwardandsimply

requiresconfigurationofloadsharingbaseduponsourceand

destinationIPaddress.Thethirdandfourthrequirementsare

physicalinterfaceparametersthatshouldbeconfiguredoneach

interfacewithintheEtherChannelbundle.Tooptimizethelinks

forNASoperation,enablejumboframes,whichpermitanMTU

of9216bytesforhigherdatathroughput.Youmustalso

configureflowcontroloneachlinksothat802.3zflowcontrol

framesareexchangedifqueuecongestionisexperiencedon

eitherswitch.
