EnvironmentSettings

Environmentsettingscontainconfigurationoptionsforthe

VisualWebDeveloperuserinterfaceandthatcontrolhow

particularelementsoftheinterfaceoperate.Thereareseveral

subsectionsintheEnvironmentsettingssection.



GeneralSettings

Thegeneralsettings(shownpreviouslyinFigureA.1)contain

settingsthataffecttheVisualWebDeveloperenvironment.The

followingsettingsareavailable:

WindowLayout—Youcanchoosebetweenatabbeddocumentlayoutoramultiple-documentinterface.Tabbed-



documentisthedefaultandmatchestheExpressionWeb

interface.

ItemsShowninWindowMenu—Ifmorethanone

windowisopen,alistofopenedwindowsappearsonthe

Windowsmenu.Youcanspecifyhowmanyitemsareshown

intheWindowsmenubyenteringavaluebetween1and

24.

ItemsShowninRecentlyUsedLists—TheFilemenu

containsamenuofrecentfilesandrecentprojects.This

settingconfigureshowmanyitemsappearineachlist.

ShowStatusBar—Whenthischeckboxischecked,Visual

WebDeveloperdisplaysastatusbaratthebottomofthe

interface.

CloseButtonAffectsActiveToolWindowOnly—Visual

WebDeveloperallowsformultipletoolwindowstobe

displayedinasinglepane,asshowninFigureA.2.When

thischeckboxischecked,clickingtheClosebuttononthe

paneclosesonlytheactivetool.Ifthischeckboxis

unchecked,alltoolsinthepaneclose.Itischeckedby

default.

FigureA.2.Multipletoolscanbedisplayedinasingle

pane.TheClosebuttonremovesthepaneentirely,

whereastheAuto-hidebutton(thepushpin)slides

thepaneloutofviewuntilit'sneeded.



Auto-HideButtonAffectsActiveToolWindowOnly—

RestoreFileAssociations—Clickingthisbuttonrestores

anyfileassociationsthatwereoriginallyconfiguredfor

VisualWebDeveloper.Thisisusefulincaseswheresome

otherproducthastakenoveraparticularfiletype.



AutoRecover

Thissection(showninFigureA.3)containssettingsthat

configurewhetherornotVisualWebDevelopersavesbackups

offilesinsituationswhereitclosesunexpectedly.Youcan

choosethetimeintervalbetweensavesofbackupfilesandalso

howmanydaysofbackupsVisualWebDeveloperwillsave.

youopenorcreateanewdocument,thedefaultbehavioris

toopenanewtaborwindowforthedocumentbeing

openedorcreated.However,ifthischeckboxischecked

andthedocumentinthecurrentwindowhasbeensaved,

VisualWebDeveloperopensanewdocumentinsidethe



currentdocumentwindow,replacingthecurrentdocument

withthenewone.Thisoptionisuncheckedbydefault.
