Consequently,he'sshootingstepsinthejourneyfromaplain

whiteobjecttoafinishedpiece.Christopher,thefather,isbusy

shootinghisdaughter'sbirthdayparty.Meanwhile,Jennifer,the

studioowner,takesonlyafewshots,combiningtheseimages

withthoseshe'sbeencollectingoverthepriorweeksand

months.She'salwayslookingtoshootimagesofinspiring

customers'piecesandinterestingeventsaroundherstudio,and

fromtimetotimesheillustratesaparticulartechniquetohelp

educateothercustomers.

Regardlessoftheirindividualagendas,allthreecharacterswill

gothroughsimilarprocessestoorganizetheirphotographs.



PreparingfortheLesson

YourfirsttaskwillbetogettheLesson3mediaintoiPhoto.

1. Ifitisn'talreadyopen,launchiPhoto.

YoushouldseeLesson2'sStudentroll1intheiPhoto

window;ifnot,followthestepsin"PreparingfortheLesson"

inLesson2tobringinandpreparethatmaterial.iPhotois

readyforyournextrollsoffilm.

2. OpentheLessonsfolderthatyoucopiedtoyourharddisk

fromtheenclosedDVD.

3. OpentheLesson03folderanddragL3.Bizroll1,L3.Biz

roll2,L3.Bizroll3,andL3.Dadroll1intoyouropen

iPhotowindow.

Whenyou'veaddedthesefourrollstoStudentroll1,your

libraryshouldlooklikethis:

Bydefault,iPhotoaddsrollstoyourlibraryandsortsthem

byrolldate.Asyouscrollthroughyourlibrary,a

semitransparentlabelpopsupinthecentertoindicatewhat

rollyou'repassingthrough.

Tomakeviewingeasieratthispoint,collapseeachrollintoa



singlelinebyclickingtheblacktriangleontheleftsideof

eachrollicon.Beforemovingon,putyourscreeninthis

state:

OrganizingYourPhotosIntoAlbums

Regardlessofwhetheryou'replayingthepartoftheparent,the

student,orthestudioowner,theprimarymethodfororganizing

photosiniPhotoistocreatealbums.AsImentionedearlier,an

albuminiPhotoisvirtuallythesameasaplaylistiniTunes.

1. Clicktheplus(+)buttonatthebottomoftheSourcelistto

addanewalbumtotheSourcelist.



2. TypethenameBirthdayPartyforthisalbuminthewindow,

andclickCreate.



3. DragtheentirerolloffilmcalledL3.Dadroll1fromyour

libraryontotheBirthdayPartyalbumiconintheSource

list.



ThiswilladdallofthesnapshotsthatChristophershotat

hisdaughter'sbirthdayparty.



Note

Addingimagestoanalbumdoesnotremovethemfrom

thelibrary;itisasiftheyareinbothplacesatonce.

4. Clickthealbumnametoseetheshotsyou'vemovedinto

thissubsetofyourlibrary.

Noticethattherearenofilmrollsinanalbum.Allthe



imagesnowexistindependentoftherolltheycamefrom.

Youcanchangetheorderofimageswithinthealbum,

whichismucheasierthandoingitfromtherollinthe

library.You'llexperimentwiththisinamoment.

5. Makethreemorealbums.Jennifer,thestudioowner,needs

analbumcalledCompanyPressandonecalledSgraffito.

AndforCharlie,createonecalledCeramicProcess.

AlbumsarelistedintheSourcelistintheorderinwhich

theywerecreated.



6. Gobacktothelibraryanddragtheentirerollcalled

Studentroll1totheCeramicProcessalbum.

7. Fromthelibrary,clicktheblacktriangletoopenL3.Bizroll

1.Maketheimagessmallenoughsothatyoucanseethe

entirerollatonce.

Thebusinessownerislookingthroughherrecentshotsand

pullingtogetherabunchthatillustratethepainting

techniquecalledsgraffito(aprocessofscratchingthrough

onecolortorevealanother).Shealsohappenstohave

capturedpicturesofafewpiecescustomershavedone

utilizingthetechnique.Allofthesewillbeaggregatedin

herSgraffitoalbum.



8. FindthefollowingshotsandmovethemintotheSgraffito

album.



Tip

Youcanselectandmoveonephotoatatime,ormovethe

wholerolltothealbumandthentossouttheextraneous

imagesfromthealbum(selectthemandpresstheDelete

key)whichevermethodfeelsmoreefficient.



9. OpentheL3.Bizroll2andL3.Bizroll3albumssoallof

Jennifer'ssnapshotsarevisibleinthelibrary.

FortheCompanyPressalbum,thestudioownerispulling

togetherparticularlyinterestingshotsofherbusinessthe

lookofherstudios,alittlebitaboutwhathappensthere,

someprojectsinthecommunity,andsomenicefinished

piecesbycustomers.

10. FindthefollowingshotsandmovethemintotheCompany

Pressalbum(someoftheshotsareincludedinL3.Bizroll

1):



Remember,youdon'talwayshavetoselectandmoveone

shotatatime.JustasiniTunes,ifyouwanttoselecta

groupofcontiguousshots,youcanselectthefirst,Shiftselectthelast,andthendragtheentirebatchtothe

appropriatealbum.Beforeyoudroptheshotsonthe

album,noticethatagreencirclewithaplussignshowsup,

alongwitharedcircleshowingthenumberofimages

you'readding.



Tip

Toselectanoncontiguoussetofshots,clickthefirstshot

andCommand-clicktheadditionalshots.



Thisistheessenceofmanualalbumcreation.Christopherhas

analbumofpicturesfromthebirthdayparty,Charliehasan

albumofshotsillustratingtheceramicprocessforhisschool

report,andJenniferhasafewalbumsforvariousprojects

associatedwithherbusiness.



ClickeachofthealbumsyounowhaveinyourSourcelistand

makesuretheycontainalloftherightimages.Thesefour

albumswillplayanimportantroleinanumberofupcoming

lessons.



ReorderingShots

Thephotosareplacedinyouralbumintheorderinwhichyou

draggedthemthere,butoddsarethisisn'ttheorderyou

ultimatelywant.Youhavetheopportunitytorearrange

themmaybechronologically(forChristopher'sbirthdayparty)or

perhapsbasedonsometheme(for,say,Jennifer'ssgraffito

shots).Oryoucouldgroupthembysimilarcontentwithno

concernforspecificorder.Whateveryourstrategy,it'seasyto

movephotostoanewlocationwithinthealbum.

1. OpentheCeramicProcessalbumbyclickingit.

Charlieisdoingareportonceramicsforhisclassandhas

shotanumberofexcellentphotosforthepurpose.Partof

thepreparationofhisreport,however,isgettingtheshots

intosomekindoflogicalsequence.Theorderinwhichhe

shotthem(andtheorderinwhichtheyappearinthe

album)doesnotcorrespondtoalogicalnarrationofthe

process.

2. Movetheshotofthefinishedceramicpiecefromthe

beginningofthealbumtotheend.Todoso,justdragitto

thenewposition.

Ablackbarpopsupwithinthesequenceofthumbnail

imagestoindicatewherethephotowillbeplacedwhenyou

releasethemousebutton.
