IfyouwanttoburnaphotooragroupofphotostoaCD,

choosethiscommand.Itactuallysendsyoutothesamewizard

youusetobackupyourentirecatalog,soyoucandoeither

activityfromthiscommand.Chapter3hasmoreinformation

aboutbackingupyourfiles.

It'swisetokeepagoodbackupofyourcatalog;thiscommand

makesiteasytodoso.Itcallsupthesamewizardyouget

whenusingtheBurncommand.Youcanchoosetobackupyour

entirecatalogorjustafewphotos.Seepage79fordetailed

directionsonusingBackup.



A.1.9.Restore



Choosethistoreplaceyourcatalogwithanarchivedversion,if

youaccidentallydeletephotosorotherwiserunintotrouble

withthecurrentversion.Restoreisalsoagoodmaintenance

tool.Ifyourcatalogmysteriouslyballoonstoahugefilesize,

Restorecanusuallycompressittobringitbackdowntoa

reasonablesize.YoumightwanttorunRestoreeverycoupleof

weeksaspartofyourmaintenanceroutine.



A.1.10.Duplicate

HighlightaphotooraCreateprojectandchoosethismenuitem

(orpressCtrl+Shift+D)tomakeaduplicate.



A.1.11.Reconnect

SometimesyourOrganizercatalog(page30)can'tfindafile

whenyouaskforit.Usuallythishappenswhenyoumoveor

renameafileusingamethodoutsideofElements(likeWindows

Explorer).ThiscommandtellstheOrganizertofindthefile

again.Youcanchoosetoreconnect:

MissingFile.Choosethistoreconnectonefile.

AllFiles.TheOrganizersearchesforallthefilesitcan't

find.



A.1.12.WatchFolders

Usethiscommandifyouregularlyimportphotosintocertain

folders.Elementsmonitorsthefoldersyouchooseandchecks

fornewgraphicsstoredinsidethem.YoucantellElementsto

automaticallyplaceanyphotositfindsintoyourcatalog,ifyou



want.Ifyouprefer,Elementscanjustnotifyyouthatitfound

newfilesandletyoudecidewhattodowiththem.



A.1.13.Rename

IfyouwanttheOrganizertobeabletokeeptrackofyour

photos,youneedtomoveandrenamethemfromwithin

Elements.Ifyouwanttochangethenameofaphoto,choose

thismenuitemorpressCtrl+Shift+N.



A.1.14.WriteTagInfotoFiles

NormallyyourOrganizertagsexistonlyinyourcatalog's

database.Ifyouwanttomakethetaginformationpartofthe

photofileitself(thewaykeywordsareinPhotoshopCSorin

theMacversionofElements),choosethismenuitem.Elements

writesyourtagsintothefile'smetadata(seepage39).



A.1.15.Move

IfyouwanttheOrganizertokeeptrackofyourphotos,you

mustmovethemwithinElementsoncethey'reinyourcatalog.

Tomoveaphoto,choosethismenuitemandthenselecta

destinationinthewindowthatappears.Youcanalsomovefiles

bydraggingthemifyougotoView Arrangement Folder

Location.You'llseeanewpaneontheleftofthePhotobrowser

withaschematicviewofthefolderstructureofyourharddrive

(justlikeyouseeelsewhereinWindows).Youcandragyour

photosintothefoldersyouwant.

Ifyouwanttoexportagroupofphotosforusebyanother

application,thisisonewaytodoit.ChooseExportfromthe

menu,andyougetadialogboxwhereyoucanchoosethe

destinationofyourfilesandrenamethemifyoulike.Youcan

alsochoosetoconverttheexportedfilestoadifferentformat.

YourchoicesareJPG,PSD,TIFF,orPNG.Thisisausefulfeature

ifyouneedtocreateJPEGsforprintingatastorekiosk,for

example.
