TUBS
7.2.1 Scope
The particular requirements of this Clause 7.2 apply to the water
containers of swimming pools, paddling pools and spa pools or tubs
and their surrounding zones where the risk of electric shock is
increased by a reduction in body resistance and contact of the body
with earth potential.
NOTE: For swimming pools for medical or large commercial use, special
requirements may be necessary.

7.2.2 Classification of zones
7.2.2.1 Swimming pools and paddling pools

Licensed to LUU MINH LUAN on 25 Feb 2002. Single user licence only. Storage, distribution or use on network prohibited.

dimensions of the following three zones (examples are given in
Figures 7.2A and 7.2B):
(a)

Zone 0 shall be the area of the interior of the water container.

(b)

Zone 1, except where varied by Item (c), shall be the area limited by
the —

(c)

(d)

(i)

vertical plane 2.0 m from the internal rim of the water container;
and

(ii)

floor, or surface expected to be occupied by persons, and the
horizontal plane 2.50 m above the floor or the surface.

Zone 1, for swimming pools containing diving boards, spring boards,
starting blocks or a slide, shall be the area limited by the —
(i)

vertical plane situated 1.50 m around the diving boards, spring
boards, starting blocks or slide; and

(ii)

horizontal plane 2.50 m above the highest surface expected to be
occupied by persons.

Zone 2 shall be the area limited by the —
(i)

vertical plane external to Zone 1 and a parallel vertical plane
1.50 m external to Zone 1; and

(ii)

floor, or surface expected to be occupied by persons, and the
horizontal plane 2.50 m above the floor or surface.

NOTE: The dimensions of Zones 1 and 2 may be reduced by the installation of
suitable barriers.

7.2.2.2 Spa pools or tubs
7.2.2.2.1 General
Spa pools or tubs with a water capacity not exceeding 500 L shall comply
with the requirements of Clause 7.1.
